PROGRESS

What Needs to be Done

We are making excellent progress with our Kibera hospital for 1.5 million men women and children. The building site has already been secured and purchased and preliminary architectural drawings and structural engineering reports have already been prepared, plans for plumbing, electricity needs have been drawn up and a land survey has been issued. Architectural and plans and site evaluations for the clinic are completed. What remains to be done to create, operate and evaluate this new health clinic with adequate space and equipment for the provision of health care services is detailed below:

  • Constructing a three-story clinic

  • Recruiting and training local staff to assist the DIHRA team in running the clinic, including conducting a telemedicine assistant training program that our group has effectively used in our medical clinic in Haiti.

  • Establishing partnerships with local authorities, community leaders, NGOs and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and acceptance of the clinic. [DIHRA has already established and confirmed a working relationship with the Kenya Medical Training College KMTC) with New York Medical College (NYMC). The proposed clinic will have healthcare personnel (medical, dental, physician’s assistant, pharmacist, etc.) and faculty rotating through our medical center in externships].

  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the clinic on the health outcomes and quality of life of the people of Kibera.

  • Reporting and disseminating the results and lessons learned from the project.
